How does water get from the roots to the leaves if a plant?

 Just ask Lower Prep!

This week, the children have been thinking carefully at how water moves through the plant.  they completed an experiment to replicate the action, using water, food dye and kitchen roll. See the pictures below:

We also looked inside a plant to see what the stem looked like. Lower Prep found that the water is 'sucked up' to the leaves through tubes in the stem called xylem. This is called 'capillary action'.
